Online Lottery: The Winner May Not Get Anything

The "Chip" magazine warns suppliers abroad

There are countries where gambling is allowed, but only offline. The probability of guessing six numbers and the bonus number is approximately 1:140 million. However, many people still play the lottery every week even online. This does not mean that they should not take the advice of lottery agencies on dubious providers from abroad that advertise anything and anyhow.

A decision by the Constitutional Court prohibits gambling on the internet. Nevertheless, you can fill out lottery tickets on sites like Tipp24.com that have digital certificates. The companies abroad operate through subsidiaries because of the new law. Tipp24.com is one of the companies that responded to the amendment and moved from Hamburg to Britain. Furthermore, it officially accepts lottery tickets from local customers, while the players on the internet must confirm that they are playing abroad.

The deception of consumers

Currently, Tipp24.com has approximately 2.5 million registered users. Many of them play the lottery twice a week. According to an editor of the Chip magazine, this provider only copies the state Lotto game. Moreover, state lotteries don’t usually offer tickets for the internet lottery.

Internet lottery players pay their money on the internet and select their numbers by filling out a form. Half of the official revenue made by the online lottery is distributed as profit. The other half goes to the state as a tax to finance social projects. Private providers that have subsidiaries in the UK have to pay more than the resulting gambling tax. Thus, according to the Chip magazine, the profit margin of these companies is over 40 percent.

The payment of earnings is not guaranteed

So far, most internet providers have paid all the winnings. The income classes are similar. The level of profits depends on the lottery company and the published odds. This means that the internet provider is dependent on the income level of the state lottery, so the payments increase in the case of a six winning lottery numbers outcome.

There is a risk though: The higher the state jackpot, the greater is the risk that the private providers cannot afford to pay. Therefore, it must file for bankruptcy. In that case, the players can only win in court. However, the judges cannot do much. First of all, online gambling is illegal and second of all, the plaintiff is put in a very bad light if the provider is located abroad since then they have to comply with the state laws.

Happiness by accident

According to the experts working for the Chip magazine, even a reduced payment is conceivable. If the jackpots of the state lottery and its private version are cracked at the same time, the player gets more than half of the amount received by one who wins the lottery and shares the amount with the other winners. The player would have to share the money with fewer winners if they participated in the official lottery, so they would make higher profits.

Controversy over the prohibition of gambling on the internet

The law that prohibits gambling on the internet was passed on January, 1, 2009. Several complaints have been filed by internet lottery retailers that saw their rights violated by the law. Some justify their actions by implying that the ban of the gambling treaty on online lottery applies at European level.
