Laser Treatment for the Reduction of Wrinkles

Here are a few things anyone should know about this revolutionary wrinkle reduction technique, namely laser treatment.

1) The aim of laser treatment is the reduction and elimination of unwanted hair for a long time or to achieve permanent hair removal. This new technology has only been applied for a few years, so it is still unknown exactly with whom and when the best results are obtained. Multiple treatments may be necessary, depending on the skin type, hair color and previous pre-treatments. Blonde or white hair cannot be removed with laser light. The darker the hair and the lighter the skin, the higher are the chances of success and the easier the depilation process. The pigment in dark skin can also be destroyed by the use of laser and therefore, the skin should not be pre-tanned.

2) Your participation contributes to the success of the cosmetic laser surgery to a substantial extent. The laser attacks the hair root. The hair is pulled out. Therefore, no waxing, hair plucking or electroepilation should be carried out 3-4 weeks before the laser treatment. Hair removal can indeed occur after such treatment although more frequent laser treatments may be needed to achieve success. Shaving, face painting or bleaching the hair on the skin is allowed. The hairs should not be shaved 2-3 days before the hair removal treatment, so the hairy areas can be marked prior to laser treatment.

3) The laser treatment can be slightly painful even if it is done in cosmetic surgery clinics. People who are very sensitive to pain should take a painkiller approximately 1 hour before the treatment (not aspirin; Talvosil Forte tablets are suitable, for example). Possible side effects of laser treatment include pain, redness, blistering, scarring and the formation of bright or dark spots on the skin. Should any problem occur after treatment, consult your doctor immediately.

4) No body creams and body lotions should be applied on the day of treatment and the following 2 days thereafter, if possible. Do not apply perfume in the treated area. Careful cooling under the shower or with cool compresses is permitted if necessary. No creams or make-up should be applied on the treatment day if the treated areas are the face, neck and cleavage, then only very little and subtle make-up is allowed on the following days and no lotion and perfume, aftershave and so on. No roll-on deodorant and so on should be applied in the underarm area for at least 3-4 days after treatment.

5) The laser-treated parts of the body should be kept away from direct sunlight and tanning beds for 1 month. The regular use of sunscreen with at least SPF 25 is recommended when taking walks after laser treatment has been applied in the face and head areas. Your skin may get burned despite the use of sunscreen. Otherwise, unsightly staining of the skin may occur.

6) Inform the attending doctor if you are planning a swimming or a skiing holiday. Also notify the doctor if you are suffering from acute herpes symptoms.

7) The skin may be slightly red and swollen immediately after treatment. A cooling system with cooling bags or cold compresses is perceived as very pleasant. The redness usually disappears the day after treatment. General make-up is now allowed and careful washing and showers as well. You can also scrape the crust if necessary. Manipulate the laser-treated areas by picking or scratching as little as possible. Each plucking increases the risk of infection and hence the scarring. If the treated area itches for a few hours, just chill it - do not scratch.

8) It is very important to know that the hair will not fall off immediately after the laser treatment. This is not a sign of failure. This is normal. The body rejects the treated hair over the first 1-2 weeks. Thus, fewer and fewer hairs remain. The laser treatment to the face can be repeated after about 4 weeks and that to the body, arms and legs every 4-8 weeks, unless otherwise agreed.
